Chinese New Year 2022 Greetings

2022-01-31

Before we discuss about the Chinese New Year, it would be better if we first understand the Chinese New Year itself.

Chinese New Year is the most important event for Chinese people. Lunar New Year celebrations begin on the first day of the first month (Chinese: ; pinyin: zhēng yuè) on the Chinese calendar and end with Cap Go Meh (十五暝) on the 15th (at the time of the full moon). Chinese New Year's Eve is known as Chúxī (除夕) which means "New Year's Eve".

In China, regional customs and traditions related to Chinese New Year are very diverse. However, all of them share many common themes such as a banquet dinner on New Year's Eve, and the setting off of fireworks. Although the Chinese calendar does not traditionally use a malar year number, the Chinese calendar outside China is often numbered from the Huangdi government. at least now there are three 1 years used by various experts, so that in 2017 AD, the "Chinese Year" could be 4715, 4714, or 4654.

Before the Qin Dynasty, the date for the celebration of the beginning of a year was still unclear. It is possible that the beginning of the year began in the 1st month during the Xia Dynasty, the 12th month during the Shang Dynasty, and the 11th month during the Zhou Dynasty in China. Leap months are used to ensure the Chinese calendar is in accordance with the surrounding environment, always added after 12 months since Shang (according to the divination bone records) and Zhou (according to Sima Qian). China's first emperor Qin Shi Huang changed and decreed that the Chinese year began in the 10th month of 221 BC. In 104 BC, Emperor Wu Yong Ming who ruled during the Han Dynasty set month 1 as the beginning of the year until now. The hope is that the New Year's event can be in accordance with Chinese society, which in general is an agrarian society. During the Zhou Dynasty, New Year's Eve celebrations were held during the winter solistice or dongzhi.

The Chinese solar calendar determines the date of the Chinese New Year. The calendar is also used in countries that have been adopted or defined by Han culture (especially in Korea, Japan, and Vietnam) and may have a similar origin to New Year's events outside of East Asia.

In the Gregorian calendar, Chinese New Year falls on a different date each year, between January 21 and February 20. In the Chinese calendar, the winter solstice must occur in the 11th month, meaning Chinese New Year usually falls on the second new moon after the winter solstice (and sometimes the third if there is a leap month that year). In traditional Chinese culture, lichun is the solar time that begins in spring, which occurs around February 4.

Celebrated in areas with a population of ethnic Chinese, Chinese New Year is considered a major holiday for the Chinese and has an influence on the new year in China's geographical neighbors, as well as the culture with which the Chinese interact widely. These include Korea, Mongolia, Nepal, Bhutan, Vietnam, and Japan (before 1873). In Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and other countries with significant Han populations, they have become part of the traditional culture of these countries.

Just like ethnic Chinese in various other countries, Chinese-Indonesian ethnic groups have also carried out Chinese-Indonesian New Year events since hundreds of years of their arrival in the archipelago. Various Chinese language and cultural groups hold events that differ from one another. The majority group of Chinese-Indonesians is Hokkien, so the event that is characterized by this group is the most dominant seen in Indonesia.

Usually, the Lunar New Year event lasts up to 15 days. One day before or during the Lunar New Year, for Indonesian citizens of Chinese descent, it is a must to perform ancestor worship, such as in funeral ceremonies, preserving ashes or lingwei, praying for ancestors as is done on Ceng Beng Day (a special day for pilgrimage and cleaning). ancestral graves).
